NanoChronia is developing miniaturized metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) and/or functionalised graphene (f-G) gas sensors that are highly specific to measure certain gases such as hydrogen, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and methane.
These sensors detect the concentration of various types of gases by measuring the resistance change in the metal oxide or functionalised graphene layers due to the adsorption of gases.
Atmospheric oxygen on the MOS’ surface is affected by the target gases, affecting the quantity of electrons in the metal oxide material.
The adsorption of a target gas on the functionalized graphene surface results in charge transfer between the adsorbed molecules and the graphene film.
By continuously measuring the changing resistance in the metal oxide, we can accurately monitor the concentration of the specific gas in real-time.
